Day of Action
Dates: 6/7/2016 - 6/18/2016
Reading really matters. Because kids who read, succeed and those who lag hit snags…and sadly, most of them never catch up.
United Way’s Day of Action is a national movement that locally impacts thousands of children and families. Each year United Way collects books through our annual book drive to distribute to young readers. Our book drive concludes with a community event, held at the beginning of summer, where volunteers help spread the love of literacy and encourage kids to pick out books they can read over the summer!
2016 Day of Action Project:
Murphy Canyon Community Block Party & Fun Run, featuring United Way's Annual Day of Action
Activities:
Families can participate in a Fun Run followed by a Community Block Party. This event includes food, games, music, children’s literacy games & activities, a resource fair for parents & military families, face painting, and more.
United Way will host a Pop-Up Book Shop where volunteers helps kids “shop” for free books to encourage summer reading. This event will benefit families in the Murphy Canyon community.
