SDHVN: Tuesday Night Dinners with We See You
We See You is an organization that serves a weekly home cooked dinner (every Tuesday) to 150-200 people from the homeless community on a budget of $0. We rely on the generosity of individuals, families, local businesses, churches and anyone with heart to help make this dinner happen. Through relationships via the weekly dinner we have become advocates to help people in their time of need, connecting them to resources to help them transition off the streets of San Diego.
Who We Serve . . . The large majority of the people who attend Tuesday Night Dinner live on the streets in the Mission Valley/ Old Town/ Point Loma/ Linda Vista Area.
Dinner Location . . . The Resolved Church Parking Lot 5444 Napa Street San Diego, CA 92110 * Parking is available in the lot, on the street or next door at the police station.
Dinner Experience . . .
5PM- Set up begins
5:15- Gates open for guest to help themselves to coffee and spots to charge their phones, get settled, go through donations, and relax
6PM- Dinner begins!
7:15- Begin tear down/ clean up
8PM- Close
Budget . . . The AMAZING thing about this dinner is that it has run for the last 3 years on a budget of $0! A home cooked meal for 150-200 people is provided weekly by members of the local community, groups of friends, college students, local businesses/offices, church groups. Anyone who serves is welcome to bring friends, significant others, family members, and kids! All donations are tax deductible!
The Need . . . Getting involved with the dinner is easy if you are a single person, a family, or a large group. Since the dinner feeds so many, it usually takes more than one group to donate a week's meal. To lead one particular week, you/your group select a theme, which ensures that it's NOT a potluck, but a meal. What Else Can We Bring . . . You are welcome to bring donations as well! Everything from clothes to shoes, blankets, pet food, hygiene products, even to-go containers . . . it's all helpful! Friends from the Homeless Community also appreciate plastic bags, backpacks, old luggage. Some groups even bring snacks for people to take with them (IE: Cup O Noodles, Beef Sticks, Granola Bars etc)
The Vibe . . . Equally as important as the food, Tuesdays are an opportunity for our guests to experience love. People say they love coming because of the way they are treated. They say the home-cooked dinners make them feel at home. We respect each person, we care about their stories and look for ways to support their needs.
Lives Changed . . . One of the things we are most excited about, are the lives we have seen change. Nothing gives us more joy than being able to connect people who attend the dinner with resources that help them get free from addiction, off the streets, living a life they are worthy of living. It's amazing to witness this. There are so many amazing stories!!
