Readers in the Heights @ Franklin Elementary
Help children discover the joy of reading as a Reading Tutor for Readers in the Heights at Franklin Elementary! Students spend all school-year learning, but for many, learning stops during the summer months when they no longer have structured learning activities or safe places to engage with peers and adults. This phenomenon is called “summer slide” and it is most acute for low-income students who can lose an average of more than 2 months in reading achievement in the summer while their middle-income peers tend to make gains. The most critical time for reading intervention is in the early elementary grades, kindergarten through fourth grade. Reading one on one with students not only fosters a love of reading but also teaches the value of literacy. Come join us this summer for our third annual Readers in the Heights and make a difference for the youth in our community!
